The website www.hovoryozdravi.cz provides reliable and verified information about health problems in the form of videos, audio recordings, and texts. The website was created by sharing the life experiences of people suffering from certain health problems.

Within each module, which corresponds to a particular health problem, 30 to 50 interviews were shot, which are cut and sorted into themes, such as learning the diagnosis, symptoms, side-effects of a particular medicine, and the effect of the illness on the family.

The website user can find exactly the health problem or diagnosis that he/she is interested in, as well as a specific topic within this issue, about which he/she can hear the opinions of dozens of people with their own experience.

Use of websites for healthcare professionals and healthcare workers

The recordings of the patient's experience that are presented can help medical officers, carers, and other professionals working in healthcare. It is possible to gain a deeper understanding of how a health condition or a particular illness affects the patient, to keep pace with practical information that could be of retroactive benefit to patients and colleagues, and to gain a better understanding of a new or less common experience.

Health professionals can also learn what kinds of messages the patients have for them. So they have the opportunity to get constructive feedback about people's experiences with their doctors, nurses, caregivers, health advisors, etc.

Health professionals can also recommend websites to patients as expert material for studying their illness.

Resources for teaching, training, further education, and discussion

The audio and video recordings on the website are a free source of material for teaching, training, and further education, not only for those who work in healthcare but also for other professions working with the public or in the social sciences. Students, as well as professionals, can obtain information about a patient's view of a specific health problem and the associated positive or negative experience (the behaviour of nurses, communication with a patient, etc.).

The direct experience of patients may also stimulate or supplement the discussion about key issues in healthcare.

Thanks to the wide range of topics and experiences, the interviews can also be beneficial for other professions, such as police officers, teachers, personnel officers, social workers, clerks, etc.

The website www.hovoryozdravi.cz was established thanks to the cooperation between the Institute of Social Health at Palacky University in Olomouc (OUSHI) and the Health Experiences Research Group, University of Oxford. The website is being developed with the support of various grants and the research presented on this website is carried out by the OUSHI team.

The methodology used is considered worldwide to be an excellent research tool for sharing relevant information, as well as for training various target groups. In the research, we work with qualitative data, which is considered the most appropriate type of research in relationship to the subjective experience of the illness by an individual and his/her life experience.

Patients’ experiences are published on the website; the method works with modern and also widely available technologies. The topicality, necessity, and dynamics of this methodology are supported by the fact that, in the last 10 years, it has expanded into more than a dozen countries around the world.
